n March of 1989, Jim Betkowski fulfilled his lifelong dream of opening his own funeral home when he and his wife, Lu, opened the Elmwood Chapel at 11200 South Ewing Avenue on Chicago’s Southeast Side. Then, in the late 1990’s, Jim realized that many of the South East-Siders were moving to the Tri-Town Area of Northwest Indiana. October of 1999 marked the opening of the St. John, Indiana location at 11300 West 97th Lane. In 2012 the Betkowski family opened their third location in Cedar Lake, IN.
