St. Paul, MN
The reasons for building was because of the strong Hmong population in the city of St. Paul, and the need for elderly housing to meet the needs of the population. The client built 24 units of elderly housing in 2018 and quickly filled up. As a result, they considered if building an additional to their new facility was possible. Upon receiving a Conditional Use Permit from the city of St. Paul, this cleared the way to add another 30 units to their property.
The building addition consists of 12,352 square of new construction. Just like the existing 24 units, the addition will be two stories. There will be 30 new units added bring the total number of residents to 54 upon completion of the project. 12 of the new units are part of a wing that is dedicated to those with memory issues. This wing has it’s own entrance along with its own dining and living area. It also contains an exterior patio that is fenced in to protect the residents. The remainder of the addition contains the rest of the new units, along with a large activities area for the resident to enjoy crafts, movies, and other activity functions. The new addition also includes new nursing space and offices, laundry facilities, a family conference room, a beauty shop, and kitchen storage expansion. Each resident room will include its own bathroom and shower. The addition plans to break ground in early June of 2023 and be completed late winter/early spring of 2024.
