Valentine, NE — Miller Architects & Builders has recently broken ground on the Middle Niobrara – Natural Resources District’s new multi-purpose building. With the Natural Resources District growing staff and the need for additional space to accommodate educational programs and other community events, the decision was made to design and build a multi-functional building to meet the community’s needs.

“Miller Architects & Builders has a mission of supporting the community and helping them thrive and grow. That’s why we are so excited about partnering with the Middle Niobrara – Natural Resources District and the Valentine community to create this space,” said Jesse Brenny, Development Consultant of Miller Architects & Builders. “This will create so many opportunities for the community to come together and to grow and learn!”

When the building is complete in the summer of 2026, it will feature a shared lobby and reception area for both the Natural Resources District and the Sandhills Interactive Natural Resource Education Complex guests. The learning classrooms will also be used for larger regional and state meetings for the NRD, host local community meetings, and a variety of private social gatherings, and will feature a serving kitchen, break room, staging room, and conference room. This building was thoughtfully designed to improve the environment as well as the community, with wood framing, low-water-consumption plumbing, a heating system that will utilize an existing wood-biomass boiler, cooling equipment with high-efficiency ratings, and LED fixtures with motion-sensing technology. Outside, the gutter will collect rainwater for watering the surrounding plants and shrubs.
